Steven wrote the original demo for this song alone, but it quickly transformed into a much different song than originally intended. The immediate vibe we both got after listening through the instrumental was that this was a textbook "first love" song. The electric feeling you get when you finally hold that new interest. After a few iterations and throwing a few key changes and a massive bridge into the song, we sat in different rooms with the intent of writing a song about first love. After at least an hour of failed attempts, we just wrote and took ourselves out of that box, and what came out of it was a song about losing old love. And not like an old fling, but lifelong love. Imagining what it would be like to lose your spouse of 45 years. Immediately, it clicked and the lyrical content hit us like a ton of bricks. This song is about watching your decades long partner die slowly from old age or chronic illness/disease, walking through your now empty home, wondering where to go from there. But no matter what, your love will be forever. What is Adventure? Adventure is love, pain, fear, loss, children, family, making traditions, and reflecting on your life, knowing that your adventure is uniquely your own.
